King Khalid University
His Royal Highness, Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Governor of the Aseer Region, patronized on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, the opening ceremony of the Fourth Scientific Forum on the History of King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, entitled "Social Aspects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Under the Reign of King Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud." The event was organized by King Khalid University, represented by the King Khalid Scientific Research Chair, and took place in Abha Palace Hotel from the 4th to the 5th of this month.
His Excellency, Dr. Faleh Bin Rajaa Allah Al-Solamy, the Rector of King Khalid University, welcomed His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Al-Saud and appreciated his generous patronage and continuous support for all of the activities and events of the University. He added that King Khalid University has a scientific chair, which bears the name of a beloved late King whose reign was characterized by prosperity - King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Rector Al-Solamy said, “Because of the blessings of this beloved King, the scientific chair that has his name still achieves success, and this Fourth Scientific Forum is only one of many proofs of that."
Al-Solamy added, "The University, which is holding this forum, considers it as a scientific, national and moral duty and seeks to celebrate scientific truths, sustain loyalty to a visionary leadership personality, in addition to consecrating national values."
At the end of his speech, Rector Al-Solamy thanked the King Khalid Charity Foundation for its constant support and care given to King Khalid's Scientific Chair. He also thanked all of the staff preparation committees for their diligent efforts.
Al-Solamy: The University considers this meeting a scientific, national, and moral duty to celebrate the scientific reality, the loyalty to leading personalities, and the sacredness of national values.
In his speech on behalf of the participants, Royal Court Advisor, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Turki, said, "I am pleased to extend my sincere thanks to HRH Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of the Aseer Region, for his patronage to this meeting and for his follow-up to this University and all of the institutions in the region. Dr. Al-Turki thanked the University and its Rector and brothers in King Khalid’s Scientific Chair."
Dr. Al-Turki added, “We are aware that the Kingdom since establishment was based on the word of Tawheed and the Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad, Peace be Upon Him. This approach continues into the blessed era of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. He said, "It is no coincidence that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia serves the Two Holy Mosques. Saudi Arabia is the country that represents true Islam."
To emphasize the importance of the forum, the Dean of Graduate Studies who is also the Supervisor of the King Khalid Chair for Scientific Research, Dr. Ahmed Bin Yahya Al-Faya, stated, "King Khalid's Chair is keen on taking care of King Khalid's history, his great efforts and contributions in the history of Saudi Arabia and his important decisions. The Chair also tries to elaborate his outstanding leadership personality, and his historical period of achievement and development, through increased attention and dissemination of studies and the support of various scientific projects, in addition to holding scientific meetings on his leading personality."
Dr. Al-Faya clarified that the Fourth Scientific Forum comes under the title 'Social aspects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the era of King Khalid' and contains a group of researchers from different regions of the Kingdom and its scientific and cultural institutions. The requests for participation in the meeting have exceeded 35 scientific papers that were primarily arbitrated by Members of the Scientific Committee of the Chair who approved 23 papers.
To conclude, His Royal Highness, the Governor of Aseer region, honored a number of participants in the forum and received a commemorative memento from His Excellency, Dr. Faleh Bin Rajaa Allah Al-Solamy, the Rector of King Khalid University.
Under the patronage of His Excellency, the Rector of King Khalid University, Prof. Dr. Faleh Bin Rajaa Allah Al-Solamy, the General Directorate of Information Technology (IT) held the second meeting of the University's Website Coordinators on Wednesday evening at Abha Palace Hotel. Honorable dignities from the University attended the meeting including vice-presidents, deans, and staff.
At the beginning of the meeting, there was a short introductory film about the new environment of the faculty websites and other electronic entities, which is characterized by a stylish yet simple look and feel. The presentation also included a procedural clarification of the steps to follow when requesting any service related to the main university website or the websites of other entities, in addition to a demonstration of numerous web tools, which would be useful while developing the site. The film also included an explanation of how to professionally edit images and designs, and more importantly, their importance in conveying a professional look and feel.
Equally important, the University Rector launched the electronic version of Afaq, the university newspaper, which includes many high-tech features, such as making it accessible to the visually impaired through voice commands and a host of cutting-edge technologies. After that, Rector Al-Solamy launched the website of the General Directorate of Information Technology in its new format, which includes a portal for IT ambassadors and indicators of cognitive transformation.
Al-Solamy praised the diligent efforts of the IT staff. He further directed all entities to work on developing their websites and asserted that he would spare no effort in supporting them for the success of their websites.
Al-Solamy praised the sustained efforts exerted by the General Directorate of Information Technology affiliates in the advancement of the University and the lightning pace of electronic development. He directed all university departments to exert the required efforts in the development of their websites. He emphasized that he will spare no effort in supporting them to develop and enhance their websites.
Correspondingly, the Chief Information Officer (CIO), Dr. Salem Alelyani thanked the Rector for his continuous support and follow-up on the technical transformation in the University. Dr. Alelyani also related that the Rector maintains that the key role of the colleges and their employees in enriching the content of their websites and raising the ranking of the University are of utmost importance. In like manner, the CIO didn’t forget to appreciate the remarkable efforts completed by the entities involved who made a great impact on the success of their websites in particular, and on the success of the University main website in general.
Within the activities of the meeting, the e-learning department of the University presented a workshop on the KKUx platform. During the workshop, coordinators from different departments and faculties of the University were trained in cooperation with the IT department. They were trained on the new environment of their websites with different content types and the procedures for managing their websites. Following after, there was a brief explanation from the Help Desk department and how to communicate via 8000, in addition to another detailed explanation of the service of mySITE and e-Prints. All of the attendees were urged to activate these services by training their respective colleagues on how to properly interact and utilize the aforementioned platforms. Furthermore, an informational session was presented where IT ambassadors learned how they could improve the global visibility of their website through search engines, followed by an open discussion to answer the attendees’ questions.
At the end of the meeting, the Rector honored the distinguished representatives in several categories, based on the evaluation carried out by a specialized team from the General Directorate of Information Technology according to the following criteria:
