The Summer School for Medical Research, which was organized by the Health Research Advisory Office (research), has concluded its activities at King Khalid University. It is noteworthy that these activities were the first of their kind in the region, in which more than 100 students from Health Specialties of King Khalid University (KKU) took part.
On this remarkable occasion, the President of the Health Research Advisory Office (research) at the Institute for Research and Consulting Studies at the University of King Khalid, Dr. Abdullah Abdul Mohsen Al-Sbani has confirmed that the designed programs aimed to make health research proposals and designs, in addition to making sure of meeting the terms and ethics of scientific research, and to develop research plans and mechanisms for implementation and for review, as well as for the development of plans and mechanisms for research statistical and qualitative analysis. Dr. Al-Sbani further confirmed that the programs aimed to evaluate, criticize, and review scientific researches, as well as to help in writing and in disseminating scientific papers and reports, in addition to the provision of curriculum, workshops, and training courses on how health researches work.
Dr. Al-Sbani clarified that the system of teaching and training in the summer school for research passed through several stages; first, trainees attended a series of lectures and workshops in order to get enough training on making and managing health research. Then, they were distributed to research groups according to their desires and their specialties, and they were supervised by a consultant of the same health specialization together with a supervisor of the Office. After that, each team started writing an integrated research Proposal for each group, which summarizes the research project that is being done during the summer period. At that stage, the trainees get the approval of the concerned authorities to start research procedures and to start collecting research data in order to be analyzed, and to interpret the results of the research for writing summaries. Finally, the team displayed research abstracts at the closing ceremony of the school.
It is worth mentioning that nearly 20 research proposals have been submitted and were then audited by committees specialized in research ethics in the region. Remarkably, all the 20 research proposals were approved.
