His Royal Highness the Governor of Asir region, Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz has launched the 13th Book and Information fair at King Khalid University on Monday the 26/12/1435 AH.
On his arrival to the fair, His Royal Highness cut the ribbon, then he visited departmental stands at the fair, which included 40 participation by different local publishing houses, 25 governmental units and a number of domestic institutions, as well as institutions that are interested in technology, computer sciences and library technology. Moreover, a corner has been allocated to the Saudi Universities, the literary clubs, public libraries, in addition to a special one for the children.After that, His Royal Highness directly went to the venue of the celebration which is prepared for the occasion.
The party started with the national anthem which was followed by recitation of some verses from the Holy Quran. After that, the Dean of Library Affairs, Dr.Saeed Al-Khaldi gave a word on the occasion indicating that the fair was accompanied by many events, cultural activities, lectures, symposiums, and poetic evenings, which were to be presented by a group of distinguished professor poets and intellectuals. The evenings concentrated on the importance of reading, so we should keep reading. Moreover, training courses were set up by the Saudi Digital Library, and Tahawol office.
Al-Khaldi confirmed that these accompanying activities target the University students - male and female. He called on the academic community in the region to participate, and attend the training courses in different fields, so as to take the advantage of such cultural events to be capable of building an intellectual community.
His Royal Highness, Governor of Asir Region, the chairman of Tourism Development Council in Abha, Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz sponsored the closing ceremony of KKU Summer Festival II yesterday evening.
The Prince was received upon his arrival to the ceremony in the courtyard of university headquarters, King Khalid University President, Prof. Abdul Rahman Dawood and a number of faculty members.
After that, his Highness toured the participated exhibitions and listened to a brief explanation from the exhibitors about the content of their exhibitions and the highlight of what they have presented during the festival.
Then, speech ceremony prepared for this occasion began, where the Director of the festival deliver a speech in which he said, "in this beautiful evening with your presence - sir - the curtain comes down on the effort that took months of continuous work and the fruit of cooperation that completed more than 100 various activities on an area of more than 150 thousand square meter within five days. These activities attracted a lot of community members, males and females. And that is only one duty of the university towards the community".
He continued saying, " 1200 trainees have been trained in the developmental training courses. In addition to that, there are other activities such as various sport competitions and play activities and programs for children and women. For women, more than 57 activities have been made particularly for them".
He added, " The total cost for the prizes given by the university during the festival has reached 150 thousand riyals in addition to the grand prize and the winner will be announced later tonight".
Following that, HE University Prof. Abdul Rahman Dawood delivered a speech in which he thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Highness the Crown Prince and Deputy Crown Prince -God save them all- for the great unlimited support given to the university. He also thanked His Highness Prince of Asir region for the continuous support and encouragement of university activities.
He welcomed the region guests and visitors describing their attendance as distinguished and effective in all activities and events.
At the conclusion of his speech, he thanked all those who contributed to the success of the festival and asked God Almighty to reward them.
After that, Saudi Customs Department provided a live show in front of the audience by police dogs, showing their skills in arresting and finding drugs and explosives.
Then, His Highness and the audience watched the operetta 'Potry Passion'. The words was by Ghanim Al Qarni and performed by a number of university students and they are Muhammad Al Badr, Muhammad Al Awashiz, Muhammad Mushbab, Asim Hils and (South Band).
At the end of the ceremony His Highness Asir Prince honored theparticipants from inside and outside the university, and then Souvenir photos are taken with Highness.
Under the auspices of the chairman of tourism development in Asir Region, His Royal Highness, Asir Prince, Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul Alziz, King Khalid University signed a memorandum of cooperation in the fields of tourism and antiquities with Saudi Commission for Tourism and antiquities in Abha this past Wednesday.
The memorandum of cooperation was by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of the Commission, and King Khalid University President Prof. Abdul Rahman Al-Dawood.
The signing of the memorandum came in the framework of the principle of partnership and cooperation pursued by Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities in its relationship with the various authorities in the public and private sectors, in order to achieve the goals and overall strategic directions for developing the national tourism in the Kingdom.
The most prominent goal is localization careers in tourism sectors, and working to empower local communities to carry out their roles in the implementation of the tourism development plan. In addition to that, the agreement helps achieving the objectives of the King Khalid University. Furthermore, the University serves as an influential and active role in supporting the tourism development areas, and harnessing the potential and the efforts of its employees to preserve, protect and develop the monuments, the architectural heritage and artisan heritage.
The corporation between the university and the commission includes a number of fields. Some of them are: The exchange of information and expertise between the University and the Tourism Information and Research Center (MAS).
Cooperation in the field of organizing events and activities that have a positive impact on the tourist attractions in Asir region.
Cooperation in the implementation of studies and statistics and study the economical, social and environmental impact, Cooperation in holding events, activities and tourism programs.
Cooperation in organizing courses and training programs for professionals in tourism activities.
Cooperation in the restoration and repair of historic sites, and the development and preserve of cultural heritage, according to the scientific possibilities and human resources of the university.
Adding to that, the agreement comprised the cooperation in holding specialized training programs for students and individuals from the local community and institutions, Cooperation in inviting experts and specialists to present papers in the field of architectural heritage, cooperation in the preparation of integrated studies and plans on the recruitment of sites and heritage buildings with what it is suitable to its composition while maintaining its authenticity and identity, and cooperation in the participation of faculty members and university students in visits to architectural Heritage sites organized by the Commission.
From his side, HE, the chairman of Tourism commission confirmed on that the agreement between the university and the commission is comprehensive and it seeks to establish a College for Tourism and Antiquities and architectural heritage extends to training programs. This will help in offering job opportunities. He added Asir is considered as one of the most important parts of the kingdom, and the incubator of national tourism and in need of such college.
On the other hand, KKU President expressed his happiness in signing the agreement, which include many areas related to tourism. In the same regard, he added the quest to create specializations gives a way out and serve the Tourism Commission to achieve its goals, which will reflect on the country and the people.
He continued: "We will start working on the study of this college according to the procedures and criteria derived from the Higher Education Council that must be followed".

The General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, in cooperation with its partners at the Boards of Tourism Development and Touristic Committees in the regions of the Kingdom, launched the activities and programs of the Saudi Summer Festivals, 1435 AH. A ceremony was held on Wednesday evening in the city of Abha under the auspices of the Prince of Asir Region, the Chairman of the Board of Tourism Development in the region, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz.
Upon the Prince's arrival to the venue, he visited the headquarters that participated in the festivals, and listened to an explanation of the Vice-President of Marketing and Programs at the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, Hamad Al-Sheikh. The explanation was about festivals and corners that were participating in the celebration.
The celebration started with a short, theatrical show entitled, "Where Can We Spend our Summer Holiday". Then, there were shows of horses, old cars, equestrian, colors and folklore arts, as well as children cultural shows, lighting and sound. 1200 young men participated in the celebration.
At the end of the celebration, the Prince of Asir region, the Chairman of Tourism Development Board in the region, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz, reported, in a press statement, his appreciation for the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities for selecting Abha City to launch Saudi Summer Festivals in conjunction with the initiative, "Asir .. a Main Touristic Destination Around the Year" which the region is witnessing the activation of its activities. His Royal Highness thanked and appreciated the Chairman of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, Prince Sultan Bin Salman, for his support and interest in national tourism. He said: "If not for God then Prince Sultan bin Salman, there would be no tourism in the Kingdom."
The Prince of Asir described the celebration as "wonderful ", adding: "Thanks to Allah, we saw a wonderful celebration in every sense of the word, with the participation of teams and arts from all over the Kingdom."
The Prince of Asir region wished best of luck for all festivals in the Kingdom, pointing out that the annual celebration, by launching festivals, raises the benign competition between regions to be the best. He suggested the Tourism Authority would arrange the annual celebration in different places around the Kingdom.
He added: "Each region in the Kingdom has its own characteristics and different elements in terms of the environment, nature, archeology and heritage. He urged the Saudis to spend their summer holidays inside the Kingdom as possible.
He concluded his statement praising the citizens' hospitality in each area towards the tourists and visitors.
In a press statement, The Head of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, Prince Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz said, on the occasion organized by the Authority for the seventh year, that launching the Saudi Summer festivals this year from Asir is a recognition of the Authority for the outstanding touristic importance of this region, and a support to the initiative, "Asir .. A Main Touristic Destination around the Year". The initiative was launched earlier this year and a number of programs and plans are currently being implemented.
His Highness indicated that, " launching the Saudi Summer Festivals " is an important occasion to highlight the activities and programs of the summer, which has become an important economic activity, contributes to increase greatly the demand for domestic touristic trips in various parts of the kingdom. He praised the great efforts, exerted by the Boards of Tourism Development in different regions and headed by their Royal Highnesses, the Governors of the provinces, as well as Tourism Development Committees which organize these festivals which have become industry managed by specialized companies with the support and rehabilitation of the Authority.
His Highness commended on the support and interest of the State for national tourism through a number through taking a number of regulations and resolutions, such as the approval to establish King Abdullah's Project for Cultural Heritage, and the resolution to support the Authority, financially and administratively. His Highness stressed that the national tourism sector awaits the completion of such a system by enabling it to be funded through the" Lending Program for National Tourism". This Project is now in its final stages, and it will be, after activation, God willing, the cornerstone of the big boom for national tourism, which waited for years for a sort of funding that could support its investment projects, and raise the level and quality of services.
Repeatedly, His Highness emphasized on the full concentration of Authority on the local tourist, pointing out that the development of domestic tourism is based on improving service system, products and programs that form the integrated touristic experience sought by the citizen. In this case, citizens will be able to enjoy their country, provide them with employment opportunities in their areas, in addition to increasing the growth of economic revenues in areas. He stressed that there are services that have been developed, in addition to the events, activities and programs which are currently witnessing a large and growing demand from citizens.
Prince Sultan clarified that anticipations reveals that there is a growth in the number of the touristic domestic trips this summer. The studies of the Information and Tourism Research Center (MAS ), which is affiliated to the Authority indicate that there is a growth in touristic domestic trips by ( 6.0% ) during summer this year if compared to last year, as a result of the efforts of the Authority and its partners on the Boards of Tourism Development in areas to spread domestic tourism. He noted that it is expected the domestic trips reach 5.8 million tourist trip during the summer compared to 5.5 million trips last summer, while it is expected the number of touristic flights during the summer reach (3.1) million trips compared to (3.0) million trips last Summer, a growth rate of ( 5.6% ) .
He added that the estimated initial data indicate that the expenses of domestic touristic trips for the summer of this year will reach 6.2 billion SR, compared to the last year ( 5.0) billion SR with a growth rate (23.9 %).
The Chairman of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities stated that the Summer Festivals this year, 45 festivals, are expected to save more than 5,000 temporary jobs for citizens, and attract more than 10 million visitors. They are expected also to achieve economic returns exceeding 10 billion SR.
He stressed that the Authority pays attention to support tourism festivals through the program of supporting activities, which resulted in the achievement of more than 50 thousand temporary jobs in festivals that held since 2005 up till now. The number of festivals that have been organized under the auspices of the Authority surpassed 500 festival since 2005 up till now.
He continued, the Comprehensive Developmental Program, which was declared by the Authority for the activities of tourism in the Kingdom during 2014 to 2018 AD to be able to keep up with citizens' demand on the events and their aspirations to develop them, and coincided with the completion of the construction phase of the concept of tourism activities in the tourism program in the Kingdom.
The organizing committees of the Summer Festivals have completed its preparations for the start of those festivals that contain a large number of activities and events that characterized each region and suitable with nature and the elements of each region, and reflected the rich diversity of tourism in Saudi Arabia. These festivals vary between marketing, desert and heritage festivals, in addition to festivals are especially for agricultural products in the areas, festivals for touristic sports, and entertainment festivals.
It is noteworthy that the Authority has provided all the information and offers related to the holiday and events on the call center of tourism on the number 19988. It provides all the events and venues, in addition to the website of "the Saudi tourism", affiliated to the Authority (http://sauditourism.sa/ar/Pages/default.aspx), which enable the tourist to determine his desirable destination.

It is noteworthy that His Royal Highness, Prince Faisal Bin Khalid has launched a campaign "Allah Gives you its goodness", on the margin of the ceremony. He called on citizens to interact and take advantage of it.

In this regard, the university Vice-President for Girls' College, the Chairman of the organizing committee of graduation ceremony, Prof. Ali Bin Nasser Al-Salateen confirmed that the ceremony is an unforgettable moment for all students, male and female, so we it is a must to show it off properly. He added that the university is delivering to the community a constellation of scientific, academic and cognitive cadres in all fields. The number of graduates reaches 12163 alumni affiliated to different colleges at different governorates of the region of Asir and from different scientific degrees: Doctorate, Master, Postgraduate Diploma, BA, and Applied Diploma. There will be a well-organized Graduation Ceremony for female Alumni besides a party for each college of the university.

The alumni expressed their happiness about this occasion, showing that all efforts that were exerted last years vanished this day. They confirmed that they are harvesting today the results of science and knowledge and they are willing to serve their community and take part in its development and to move forward the wheel of economy and development. They also express their desire to obtain job opportunities that of course should be suitable for them.
