His Excellency Dr. Faleh Bin Raja Allah Al-Solamy, the Rector of King Khalid University, stressed that the university has, with the participation of a number of its members from various quarters, a number of local community members, in addition to specialized experts, worked on re-formulating its strategy. Given the absolute importance of Vision 2030, the National Transformation Program 2020, and the Ministry of Education's Horizon Plan, the university pursuit of developing and adapting its strategy to the country's development plans is paramount to success.

His Excellency the Rector emphasized that the university has decided to develop its strategic plan based on its keenness to carry out its duties to achieve the university's aspirations and support the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and its strategic directions.

He also related that in order to carry out the tasks assigned to it, the university worked on building its strategic plan in 2015. He said, "It is well known in planning science that the flexibility of the plan and its ability to confront any repercussions that require change are strength features needed to be agile. Since the university's previous strategic plan, and after the historic declaration of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on the Kingdom's Vision 2030, and the subsequent executive programs and specific objectives, the strategic directions of the state are crystal clear. So, all the institutions of the state and the government, in particular, have found it necessary to have a clear role in supporting this vision for the sake of progress and prosperity."

Al-Solamy: Updating the strategic plan to achieve our ambitions and support Vision 2030 is of the utmost importance.

He explained that the most important reason for updating the plan of the university is the announcement of Vision 2030. He added, "The vision of the Kingdom in 2030 has opened wide areas for the contribution of universities to achieve major qualitative achievements in the tracks that support achieving the vision and consolidating its role in the success of the state’s developmental plans."

As for the aspirations, Al-Solamy said, “In line with what was announced in the Vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for 2030 and its aspirations to have at least five Saudi universities among the top 200 universities in the world, King Khalid University has announced its strategic vision within its updated strategic plan. It is a commitment to place KKU among the best 200 universities in the world by 2030." Rector Al-Solamy assured that the university would exert maximum effort, God willing, to achieve this aspiration.

In response to the updated strategic plan to internal and external changes, Al-Solamy asserted that the updated strategic plan of the university responded to the internal changes by updating its strategic plan to meet and exceed the state's plans and orientations. It also responded to regional and global changes, benefiting from the best practices of international universities and carefully examining their experiences in many fields. Furthermore, the strategic mobility of neighboring countries and the world's trends in knowledge investment, renewable energy, and support for innovation and innovation have become an additional incentive for universities while updating their strategic plans to meet and exceed expectations. Given that numerous power scales shifted, the role of knowledge investment has become apparent, and many countries have established themselves in a class of their own by adopting this principle, in spite of their severe lack of natural resources, which had been once one the main the pillars of the strength and safe cover of states.

According to the main pillars that the university depended on to update its strategy, Rector Al-Solamy confirmed that the University has formed its own set of main pillars. They are:

  • Reviewing and diagnosing the current situation.
  • Identifying the needs of the university and its employees.
  • Identifying and addressing the needs of the local community.
  • Maintaining congruence with the country's development plans, in particular, Vision 2030 and its future directions, its operational programs and the strategic objectives set for it.
  • Keeping in line with the plan for university education in Saudi Arabia (Horizons 2029).
  • Following the standards of Educational Assessment Authority.
  • Benefiting from global practices and standards of international classifications.

Al-Solamy stressed that the updated strategic plan aimed at improving education and learning. This was explicitly stated in the university's first strategic objective - "Improving the quality of teaching and learning" coupled with “Providing an attractive academic environment.” Achieving these two objectives will definitely create a unique experience in both teaching and learning in accordance with the quality required. As we are also keen to support talent, creativity, and innovation, the third strategic plan "Strengthening the active partnership with the community" included a direct initiative, which is the development of the Talent, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship Center submitted by the university Vice-Presidency for Academic Development and Quality.

In an explanatory statement in reference to the strategic plan for the community, Rector Al-Solamy clarified that King Khalid University is deeply-rooted in the region and serves a vast area and large population of nearly 2 million people. This, of course, is a major challenge. As a result, the university faculties cover eight governorates and a branch in Tehammah. For that, the strategic plan has adopted several initiatives that contribute to the development of society and solve many of its issues including:

  • Providing distinguished community services.
  • Investing in research and scientific studies in the service of society.
  • Developing continuous education programs.
  • Providing community programs to contribute to solving community issues.
  • The development of student acceptance criteria to overcome difficulties in accepting students from martyrs’ children and students with special needs.
  • Providing cadres needed by the community.

As for the development of the University's financial resources, Al-Solamy stressed that the strategic vision of the Kingdom supports this trend. He said, "We, at King Khalid University, have set an independent strategic objective, namely, the seventh strategic objective - the development of financial resources.” It aims to activate and develop the financial investment system of the university, which is reflected in the current projects to boost financial revenues while reducing dependence on government funding. This will be achieved through the following conceptual project planning benchmarks:

  • The development, activation and marketing of material and human resources.
  • Activating endowment and various investment projects in the university.
  • Diversifying financial resources.
  • Supporting the knowledge economy.

The convoy of science and knowledge begins a new journey in our precious country amidst an atmosphere of safety and security. The golden opportunities provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to help students excel in various sciences in a world-class educational environment shows no signs of slowing down. The excellent vision of our nation continues to encourage citizens of this blessed country actively.

While the wise leadership acts with the hand of support and love in the grasp of wisdom and firmness outward through the positions of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, that is known to all, it always stands on the side of brothers and the vulnerable everywhere, with support, advocacy, and relief.

Since the happy is the one who learns from other's mistakes, we need to contemplate on the devastating changes that other countries are going through from the societal destruction of wars and the ravages of sedition and compare them with the grace and prosperity that we are enjoying. These blessings compel us to thank God and require us to fulfill the aspirations of our visionary leadership. The nation is a great blessing. As a result, we should be aware of the attempts of our enemies who are continuously trying to drag this blessed country towards the evil plots of their sick hearts.

Al Solamy: I whisper to my students that there are some of their peers in other nations who genuinely wish to complete their studies and achieve their dreams but the sound of bullets, the rowdiness of sedition and the loss of security kill all their ambitions

My message today to my sons and daughters is to remind them of the grace of safety and security that we enjoy in the shadow of this country. On the threshold of the new year, I whisper to my students that there are some of their peers in other nations who genuinely wish to complete their studies and achieve their dreams but the sound of bullets, the rowdiness of sedition and the loss of security kill all their ambitions. Your country has provided you with all things that would help you to achieve your hopes and dreams. So, exceed the expectations of your country, and do not listen to the foul calls and plots that seek to destroy the safe scientific atmosphere that you are enjoying. These wicked plans also want to devastate the vast economic opportunities that are destined for you. For that, I urge you to stand with your country, and look forward with joy and hope in the coming days, and be confident that the future of your country is your future. You need to remember as you are in the classroom obtaining knowledge, that there are those who are looking to you and waiting for your scientific achievements. So, be the great gifts that you give to your mothers, fathers, brothers and loved ones because your successes and accomplishments are the most beautiful gifts that you can give to them. It is also the reward that my colleagues, faculty members, staff members and I expect from you. We are working for you, as part of a sustained effort to ensure your success continues, and that your bright futures never dim.

At the beginning and at the end, my appreciation and respect go to all of my colleagues working in the university. They instill pride and satisfaction when I see or hear about their the efforts and achievements, whether they know or do not know about it. On this occasion, I would like to remind them of that they are on a noble mission, and what they are doing today will result in blessings in their lives, deeds, and future generations. On the journey of knowledge, we are on the road towards Jannah by God's Will as Prophet Mohammed Peace Be Upon Him said, "Allah makes the way to Jannah easy for him who treads the path in search of knowledge." In this prophetic vision, we see words come to life because knowledge has helped the oppressed and healed patients in record time for the sake of all humanity. For that, I congratulate you (the seekers) of knowledge 'May God help you in your journeys.' Finally, I pray to God to protect our country from all evils and ask Him to help the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Crown Prince to preserve the blessings of security and prosperity for this blessed country.
