The Department of Civil Defense in the Asir Region, in collaboration with the Security and Safety Department at King Khalid University, arranged the spring 2018 evacuation drills at the Medical Service Building in the presence of the Red Crescent, Saudi Electricity Company, the Traffic Department, the Asir Municipality, and the University Vice Rector, Dr. Mohammad Al-Hassoon. The drill was planned at a convenient time to minimize the disruption of classes and research.

All staff members and students in the service building were evacuated to the assigned assembly areas and then to the main evacuation area with all necessary precautions to enhance the effectiveness of the drills. The fire drill was designed to familiarize employees and students with all available means of exits in the case of an emergency. At the end of the drill, the steps and measures needed to prevent fire accidents were thoroughly described.

The Talent, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum concluded its activities yesterday evening with a number of training programs and workshops aimed at spreading the culture of talent, creativity, and exchange of experiences between students in line with Vision 2030.

The Talent and Creativity Center dedicated the second day of the forum to creative training courses and workshops with the objective of motivating students and highlighting creativity and innovation with the intention of transforming them into pilot projects. The Bader Program presented the training course under the title supporting "Creative Entrepreneurship." A paper titled "Scientific Research and Innovation" was presented by Dr. Abdullah Al-Sabani, as well as another scientific article by Dr. Zafer Al-Hammad titled “The Methods of Adopting and Nourishing Talents." Dr. Salem Aleyani, CIO, concluded the plenary with an insightful talk on his paper titled “Technology and Creativity." The forum also witnessed a number of success stories from Saudi entrepreneurs on how they were supported and benefited from the Reyada and Bader Programs.

The event focused on three main points:

  1. Fostering Talent and Creativity in the Kingdom Saudi Arabia
  2. The Role of Entrepreneurship in the Saudi Society
  3. The Impact of Innovation on Community Service and Voluntary Work

Within the activities of the Saudi Scientific Association for Teachers (GSM) at King Khalid University, and in partnership with the Training Department and Scholarship at the General Directorate of Education in the Asir, the GSM held its fourth meeting under the title "Modern and Contemporary Indicative Methods of Therapy" delivered by Dr. Nabil Saleh Sufian, a member of the Faculty of Education; the meeting was attended by a number of supervisors and guidance counselors from the public educational sector, the offices of the general administration of education in Asir, and the Department of Education in Sarat Obeida.

The meeting began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, and a welcoming speech delivered by Prof. Sfar Mohamed Al-Baridie, training and scholarship general manager in the department of education in Asir, who focused on the contemporary indicative methods of therapy and the skills necessary for applying these methods. He also informed the audience of new discoveries in the field and concluded by an open discussion on the topic.

It is worth mentioning that the partnership between the Faculty of Education at King Khalid University and the General Administration of Education in Asir began last year and will continue in a number of activities and program.

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Asir Region, sponsored the activities of International Civil Defense Day, organized by the Directorate of Civil Defense in Asir Region, under the slogan "Educational Institutions and the Culture of Safety."

Upon his arrival, His Royal Highness observed the exhibition associated with the event, which included more than 15 areas from a number of related organizations. The Directorate of Civil Defense in the Asir then presented a number of incident intervention mechanisms and equipment, in addition to demonstrating models of civil defense skills.

During the opening of the ceremony, the Interim Director of Civil Defense in the Asir Region, General Ghazi Bin Yahya Al-Al'ami, delivered a speech in which he explained that the establishment of this event comes from the role of the Directorate and its duty to raise awareness in the Asir Region. He then noted that all of this work is completed in correspondence to directorates in other regions working under the umbrella of the General Directorate of Civil Defense.

Explaining that when the International Civil Defense Organization, chose the slogan for this year’s event, the choice came to reflect the importance of educational institutions and the vital role they play in establishing and implementing the concepts and culture of safety in today’s youth.

In his speech, Rector Al-Solamy stressed that safety in the current era is a significant concern for many countries and institutions. He pointed out that the culture of safety is a cornerstone and an urgent demand on the international and local levels; he also added that the importance of slogan’s message is deeply rooted in the safety and security for all.

In the establishment of cultural awareness that contributes to the transformation of theoretical safety awareness into practical cultural patterns that are applied in real life, Rector Al-Solamy added that the University is pleased with the participation of Civil Defense in this international event. To conclude, Rector Al-Solamy expressed his gratitude towards Civil Defense members and their efforts towards protecting our country and the critical duty they carry out on a daily basis to ensure the safety and security of our community. Al-Solamy also thanked His Royal Highness the Prince of Asir region for attending and sponsoring this event.

At the end of the event, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid launched the Civil Defense Awareness Platform on the university website, which is one of the outcomes of the strategic partnership signed between the two sectors. The ceremony was concluded by honoring a number of participants and handing the event sponsor a commemorative shield.

His Excellency the Rector, Dr. Faleh Bin Rajaa Allah Al-Solamy, sponsored the opening ceremony of the First Talent, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum organized by the Talent and Creativity Center in King Khalid University this morning.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the Rector launched the exhibition associated with the forum, which included the participation of many business leaders who are student members of the Talent and Creativity Center and a number of prominent external organizations. The University Rector praised the efforts of the Center for building, supporting and encouraging talented people, innovators, and entrepreneurs. He added that "Perhaps what we have seen in the exhibition is the best evidence of the activities of the Talent and Creativity Center," pointing out that the university looks forward to organizing activities to serve students through its center.

Al-Solamy stressed that the Kingdom's 2030 Vision focuses on entrepreneurial ventures. He also said: "What we have seen today provides hope to these young men and women and places us, the university administration, in a race to do everything we can to encourage and support talents." He also added that the university will support the Talent and Creativity Center in achieving its mission and vision in building a culture of entrepreneurship. In his concluding remarks, he thanked all of the Center's staff for their significant efforts and everyone who contributed to the success of this forum.

In his opening remarks, the Director of the Talent and Creativity Center in the University, Dr. Mohammed Maghrabi, welcomed the university's executive leadership and participants in a message that stressed the importance of harnessing talent.

He pointed out that the Center's keenness to organize this forum comes from the desire to spread the cultural foundations of a knowledge-based economy and the importance of talent, innovation, and entrepreneurship that will achieve this promising vision. Following after, a university student, Abdulaziz bin Ladana, spoke to his burgeoning experience in entrepreneurship; he talked about his invention, which is concerned with the security, inspection, and the monitoring of vehicles through an electronic system that he invented. It is worth mentioning that his invention was accepted by specialists, landing him local and international awards that prompted him to further develop his invention in the near future with global ambitions.

The audience also watched a visual presentation on the activities of the center and the submitted student projects that achieved successes and gained awards in several international exhibitions and conferences.

At the end of the ceremony, the Rector honored the participants in the sessions associated with the forum, which discussed the sponsorship of talent, the role of technology in the development of innovations, as well as sponsoring technical projects, inventors, innovation in entrepreneurship.

His Excellency King Khalid University Rector, Dr. Faleh Bin Rajaa Allah Al-Solamy, chaired the sixth council meeting for the current academic year 1439H in the presence of His Excellency the Secretary General of the (Interim) Committee for the Council of Higher Education, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Saleh, members of the executive leadership team throughout the university, and the college deans and council members of the female campuses via video conferencing.

Rector Al-Solamy opened the session by praising God and his Messenger (PBUH); this was followed by the Vice-Dean of Graduate Studies, the Secretary-General of the Council, Dr. Saad Al-Amri, who reviewed the topics on the agenda. During the meeting, Dr. Saad Al-Amri explained the recommendations made to improve the Electrical Engineering program as well as the recommendations for the Industrial Engineering program. He also noted that there will be some changes regarding the numbers and codes of the Fundamentals of Religious Education Masters program in the curriculum and thesis. His recommendations also included sabbatical leave for faculty members, the adoption of a summer course and the promotion of staff members.

The King Khalid University Endowment Project aims to become one of the top 10 endowment institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by 2030. Numerous educational endowment activities will be conducted that actively support scientific research, knowledge-based economies, and sustainable development through enhancing competitiveness, partnership, and social responsibility.

The project will be launched in a ceremony to be held by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Asir Region and Honorary President of the University Endowments on Wednesday, 2 Sha'ban, April 18.

Dr. Omar Bin Saeed Al-Mushait, Secretary General of University Endowments, said that the project includes five strategic tracks. A central component of those tracks is anchored to human resource development and the recruitment of a diverse segment of supporters and investments. He also related that internal growth and its related processes would be developed "to support education and health services, the development of the region, talents, innovators, scholarship students and community partnership. It will include the public and private sectors, and charitable foundations."

Al-Mushait added that there are six strategic objectives: attracting several supporters, developing sustainable quality investments, excellent administrative and financial performance of the endowment, developing effective partnerships with different sectors, the endowment role in achieving social responsibility, and supporting innovation of scientific research in support of a knowledge-based economy.

He maintained that each strategic objective includes initiatives for developing the means to attract financial support while preparing professional staff in the field. In short, he asserted that we would attract supporters while establishing effective public relations with patrons. Optimizing the investment of the university’s available resources and development comes as the second goal while building an administrative system, policies and developing human resources and financial regulations for the endowment comes as the third goal. Establishing and developing efficient and continuous channels of communication in the public sector coupled with the development of strategic partnerships in the private sector and supporting quality scientific research, education, health, social and family services is the fourth goal. Promoting and developing the regions potential resources and registering and developing inventions and small projects is the fifth goal.

8 Areas of Investment

Al-Mushait explained that the endowment program includes eight areas of investment: knowledge-based economies, innovation, entrepreneurship, health, education, tourism, entertainment and agriculture, emphasizing the geotourism of the region, scientific research (experienced staff, studies and consultants), university property (large areas and distinctive locations), technology (information security, technical expertise, and advanced data centers), education (specialized colleges), health (medical city, specialized clinics), and human capital (qualified administrations, inspired youth, and academic qualifications).
